The Lyceum of the Philippines University received its first 4-star status upgrade awarded by the QS Stars Ratings System of the Quacquarelli Symonds, one of the world’s leading analytics to the global sector of higher education. Announced July 15, 2021, LPU garnered an overall rating of 4 Stars that signifies its place as an international institution demonstrating excellence in research and teaching and providing an excellent environment for its students, faculty, and stakeholders.
Back in 2016, LPU received its first QS rating with a 3-star recognition making it the first private and non-sectarian higher education institution (HEI) to be rated by the renowned rating system.
“Saludo ako sa LPU sa tagumpay na inyong nakamit. Salamat at mabuhay kayo!” Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Popoy De Vera on LPU’s achievement in the international standards of HEIs.
How it works
The Quacquarelli Symonds Stars run on an extensive data gathering, research, and audit to determine an HEI’s status by international standards. Unlike its university ranking counterparts, the QS Stars also assigns ratings in a vast eight categories that includes teaching, employability, and research and internationalization. An overall Star rating is also awarded to an institution to classify its excellence.
“Since 2016, I am happy that many Philippine universities including LPU, have decided to compete with top universities in the world by restructuring the way they look at their programs, understanding the dynamics of international ranking, and more importantly, to really invest in internationalization initiatives,” De Vera said. The Ratings have at least a 2-year validity and can be renewed by the HEI by applying and undergoing reevaluation.
