LPU Junior Pirates Assembly 2023

In pursuit of strengthening not just the body but also the teamwork and family culture, Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite, through the Center for Sports Development, organized the LPU Cavite Junior Pirates Assembly with the theme Courage, Gratitude, and Commitment: The Way of the Pirate, on November 10, 2023, at the University Auditorium.

The event began with a morning mass at 8:00 in the morning, followed by the program proper, which started with an opening address from the department head, Ms. Mary Rose C. Mojica. During the message from Ms. Mojica, the coaches were given certificates in recognition of their loyalty and service to LPU over the years, since NCAA Season 87.

As NCCA Season 99 commenced, it was truly essential that student-athletes be provided with necessary mental health support. In line with this, the invited resource speaker, Dr. Maridette Joyce D. Maranan, the Program Chair of Foreign Service, Legal Studies, and Social Sciences under the College of Liberal Arts and Education, delved into nurturing the athlete’s mental toughness in her talk entitled “The Mindset of Champions: Nurturing Mental Toughness for Success.” The student-athletes actively participated in the activities prepared by Dr. Maranan that can help them with their psychological stability, which they can practice before the game and give their minds the tranquility and serenity that they need.

Following the mental toughness session was the presentation of the newly elected student-athlete officers as they took their oath of commitment, which was led by the president, Ms. Angelica Cruz from the volleyball girls team. Thereafter, the student-athletes were grouped randomly and played team-building games, which provided them the opportunity to meet other Pirates not belonging to their team, which further strengthened friendship, unity, and camaraderie among each other. On behalf of the student-athletes, Ms. Angelica Cruz delivered her message of gratitude for the whole LPU Cavite community and to the top management in recognition and appreciation of the scholarship and other benefits that they are continuously receiving.

Finally, to close the assembly, Mr. Ananias Goyal Jr., the department’s administrative assistant, delivered his closing message.

The student-athletes shared a delightful lunch together with some university officials and guests. During the lunch, a special video recording of the messages of gratitude to LPU from parents as well as their greetings for their children was played. The assembly concluded with a strong emphasis on the virtues of courage, gratitude, and commitment that will guide the Junior Pirates towards excellence and personal growth.
