The LPU Fun Run… It’s good for promoting health and wellness. It’s equally great for forging unity and identity among members of the Lycean community. But is that all there is to it? The Annual LPU-Cavite Fun Run is not just about health consciousness and group bonding. It was not conceived as an inward-looking activity that benefits the participants and the institution. The Fun Run is also LPU Cavite’s way of extending the gift of education to students who, without adequate means, will not be able to reach their childhood dreams of becoming professionals and productive citizens. This is the experience of Mr. Joshua Caldito. In high school, he heard that LPU was offering a scholarship for students from cash-strapped families. Guided by the CPAD office, he took the qualifying exams, the Guidance and Testing Office interview, and the panel interview. He emerged as one of the successful addition to the scholarship program funded by the proceeds from the LPU Fun Run. Mr. Caldito enrolled in BSIT and made it through four years of college, finally graduating in 2019. As a scholar, he strived to maintain his high average in exchange for full tuition and fees, book subsidy and transportation allowance – all from the fund collected contributed by Fun Run participants each year.
Today, Mr. Caldito gratefully counts his blessings, the priceless gift of studying in LPU for free. This became possible because the administration and staff, and the faculty and student body generously shared their moral and material support for the Annual Fun Run. Mr. Caldito is now working at LPU Quality Assurance Office as part of the 2-year return service included among the conditions for scholarship.
