Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite held its first league of the Data Privacy Seminar for the Academic Support Personnel (ASP) last September 10, 2019 at the Audio-Visual Theater.
The Data Privacy Office headed by LPU’s Data Privacy Officer, Mr. Roy Ferolino, with the help of the Human Resource Department, conducted the said seminar. The seminar was composed of three modules: Introduction to DPA of 2012, Data Privacy Principles, and the Data Privacy Officer. Three different speakers shared their knowledge and helped the ASP to fully understand the topic and its importance in their workplace.
The first speaker, Atty. Glenn Niño Sardillo introduced the Data Privacy Act of 2012. He emphasized the importance of privacy and discussed the scope of the said policy.
Meanwhile, Atty. Janice Ramos, the second speaker highlighted the three principles of Data Privacy: Transparency, Legitimate Purpose, and Proportionality. She also shared scenarios where the act is applicable. In addition to her discussion she emphasized the penalties for the violators.
The Data Privacy Officer, Mr. Roy Ferolino, focused his discussion on the National Privacy Commission and the creation of the Data Privacy Office. Ferolino stressed the function of the said offices and also that of the Data Privacy Officer.
Before the seminar ended, Ferolino emphasized that the Data Privacy Office needs the ASP’s full compliance. He ended his lecture by sharing his dream, to make privacy a way of life.
