It is indeed a great leap of progress for a young science like psychology to materialize in an also young institution like Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite. As I view psychology, it is a discipline that mustn’t be confined on books or comprised of a 5-hour lecture in a chilly classroom. No, psychology is not bound and born for theoretical purposes.
On the 2nd of February 2015, a simple yet successful incorporation of knowledge-to-action activity was prepared by the newly found student organization for BS Psychology students. The start of the Psychology Department’s community extension program for the Bukid Kabataan institution, a joint effort of the department’s administrator, faculty members, students, and alumni, was very meaningful. I must say that this event is humbly excellent for being substantial, purposive, and educational. I want to shed light on the dedicated efforts of both junior and senior students. I must say the project was slightly rough but I undoubtedly admire how the purpose of administering tests was achieved. I know that this affair would contribute a great deal of knowledge and experience for the students. It is a two-way process in which incudes in reaching out to a community challenged by adversity and population of students needy for experience. I think these series of circumstances goes hand-in-hand very well. I can hardly comment perfection for this event but I can proudly say that it is a well-done craft for a blooming organization. It was us, more than anyone else, who know how a pioneering body struggles for establishment. The event was not a trying hard attempt, it was more than that; rather, it is a marvellous exercise of group effort and exceptional guidance from the professors.
As a volunteering licensed psychometrician, I am ultimately glad for being part of the program that entails knowledge, awareness, experience and a sense of relationship. I can’t help but to look back at my founding ground and see how progress in this institution was being made, specifically to the department of psychology. Overall, I want to extend my gratitude for the governing body of the university, the department of psychology, both students and faculty. I hope I was able to give help as well as inspiration.
