Commitment to Nutrition and Health: CITHM’s Support for Manggahan Elementary School’s Nutrition Month Celebration

The College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM), headed by Ms. Jocelyn Camalig, Associate Dean of the college, together with Ms. Josielyn Toledo, the college’s Quality Circle Chair for Social Orientation and Community Involvement, in coordination with COSeL, supported Manggahan Elementary School’s Nutrition Month Celebration. The school, under the leadership of Dr. Helen Mendoza (school principal), has been the long-time partner of CITHM in its outreach activities.

On July 11, 2014, faculty members and students of CITHM joined the Nutrition Month Parade of the elementary school. On July 25, selected parents and teachers from Manggahan went to LPU Cavite to participate in two events: (1) Nutrition and Health Seminar, held at the Audio-visual Theater (AVT), and (2) Cook Fest for Parents, held at one of the culinary laboratories of the University. Both the seminar and cook fest focused on the importance of proper nutrition, especially the nutritional value of malunggay, and proper food preparation. Both the parents and teachers benefited from the valuable information shared during the seminar by the resource speakers, Ms. Marivic Delos Santos and Ms. Christine Reyes, CITHM and Culinary Institute faculty members, respectively. The guests also enjoyed the cook fest activity where they used the malunggay as the main ingredient in the dishes prepared.

The July 25 activity was also supported by the Culinary Institute, headed by Mr. Nicolas Van Rensburg, and by the officers and members of the LPU Culinary Arts Society.
