Support a sustainable community extension program and be a catalyst for social transformation and custodian of Filipino culture and heritage. – COMMUNITY EXTENSION
The Mission Statement of LPU for community extension, as indicated above, is the guiding principle of the University in performing its various outreach programs. In LPU Cavite, several programs of service for the community are being conducted as supported by the Administration and various faculty, non-teaching personnel, and student volunteers. From the time of the establishment of LPU Cavite in General Trias in 2008 up to AY 2013-2014, the community extension programs of the Cavite campus were implemented primarily for the people of the province of Cavite, particularly the residents of Brgy. Manggahan, where the campus is located.
For AY 2014-2015, through the initiative of the Vice President for Administration and Registrar, Ms. Maria Teresa O. Pilapil, LPU Cavite representatives started the preparations for the eventual implementation of service programs for the Aeta community in Brgy. Puting Kahoy, Rosario, Batangas. Ms. Pilapil, who hails from the nearby town of San Juan, felt that the service programs being done in Cavite can also be replicated in the community of the Aetas. Thus, on July 5, 2014, the COSeL Head and the administrators and staff of the Research, Publications and Innovation Center (RPIC) went to the Aeta community in Batangas to conduct consultations and initial needs assessment. The LPU representatives were warmly welcomed by both the Aeta community members and the officials and personnel of Brgy. Puting Kahoy. Through that initial meeting, together with constant communication with the contact persons in the area, LPU gradually formulated long-term plans for the Aetas.
After finalization of the general outline of the outreach programs to be implemented, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing was held at the Aeta day care center on September 30, 2014. It was attended by LPU Cavite officials, headed by Ms. Pilapil, the officials of Brgy. Puting Kahoy, headed by Mr. Rowel Gamab (barangay captain), the officers of the Lyceum Central Student Government (LYCESGO) and college student governments, and the leaders and members of the Aeta community.
The following are the service programs indicated in the MOA:
A. Programang PANG-EDUKASYON D. Programang PANGKALUSUGAN
B. Programang PANGKABUHAYAN E. Programang PAGSASALIKSIK
C. Programang PANG-TEKNOLOHIYA
The program ended with the giving of school supplies and food items to the Aetas and a lunch meeting with the barangay officials and community leaders.
