Arts and Sciences

Situated in Gen. Trias, Cavite, Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite, started in June 2008 as the first ever resort campus in the Philippines. One of the seven colleges at LPU Cavite is the College of Arts and Science (CAS), formerly called General Education Department because it has been, and still is servicing other colleges for general education subjects. It started with two programs, namely BS Foreign Service (now AB Foreign Service) and Bachelor of Arts in Communication. The first coordinator of the college was Ms. Melina Porcioncula, who served the college from November 03, 2009 to March 21, 2010.

In June 2009, two more programs were added, namely Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Major in English. On April 5, 2010, Ms. Marylyn Alparo took office as the Chairperson of the College of Arts and Sciences. On its third year, three new programs were introduced. These were Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Arts. Later in 2018, the course Bachelor of Science in Biology was transferred to CAS from the College of Allied Medical Sciences (CAMS).

Through the years, the CAS has been tremendously growing both in population and in program offerings. It started in 2008 with an enrollment of 127 in two programs. In 2009 with the offering of 2 additional programs, the enrollment increased to 299 (135%). In 2010, with three more new programs the enrollment went up to 606 (103%). For 2011-2014, although no new programs were added, enrollment still continued to grow with 917 (51.3%) in 2011, 1185 (29.2%) in 2012, 1432 (20.8%) in 2013 and 1678 (17.2%) in 2014.

The CAS prides itself in producing academically equipped graduates. This is evidenced by the 100 % passing in the Licensure Examination for Teachers by our BEEd and BSEd 1st batch of graduates. To further enhance our students’ learning experiences, LPU provides state of the art laboratories that are on par with industry requirements; fully equipped Mass Communication lab for the use of AB Communication students, Zoology and Psychology lab for BS Psychology students and moot court for Legal Studies Students. We are also affiliated with both public and private elementary and secondary schools for our BEEd and BSEd practice teaching activities.

Aside from the exposure to laboratory facilities and procedures, students get hands-on experience in their field of specialization. This is through the practicum or on-the-job training of up to 600 hours that they have to undergo before they graduate. This is to ensure that graduates are academically prepared to face the world when they leave LPU.

In 2019, Multimedia Arts was transferred from CAS to the new College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) as one of two pioneering programs of this department.

The College of Arts and Sciences envisions itself as an accredited Center of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences. Prospering in a quiet, peaceful and serene resort campus, faculty and students engage in free and lively interaction to develop creative minds. With the provisions of programs that promote the vision and mission of LPU, the college participates in activities like concerts and field trips for art appreciation and culture preservation; heroes' commemoration day, Buwan ng Wika celebration and observance of Filipiniaña day to promote nationalism; research seminars for knowledge enhancement in the field of Art and Sciences; and the first Friday Holy Mass for the promotion of LPU's ideals “Pro Deo et Patria”.
