LPU-C Games 2023
The Lyceans had a blast of fun and enjoyment during the week-long LPU-C Games 2023 that was held from April 25 to 29. Eight teams namely CAMS Venomous Vipers, CBA Tigers, CFAD Black Panthers, CITHM Captains, CLAE Slayers, COECSA Raging Dragons, CON Soaring Nightingales and IS Iron Spartans exchange prowess in different sports and events to reap gold medals in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, Mr. and Ms. LPU-C Games and cheer dance. This year’s intramural also debuted two trending sports, pickleball and e-sports.
LPU-C Games is the flagship event of the Let’s RISE, Lyceans! – Rebuild Resilience through Sport and Exercise, which is a wellness and sports development program of the Center for Sports Development of Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite (formerly Athletics and P.E.) that was also officially launched during the Opening Ceremony of LPU-C Games 2023 on April 25. This wellness and sports development program aims to support the overall well-being of students and employees of LPU Cavite through different sports, fitness and exercise programs that is directed towards building a healthy, resilient, and physically active LPU Cavite community. This project was presented through the opening remarks delivered by the Head of CSD, Ms. Mary Rose Mojica.
The Opening Ceremony of LPU-C Games 2023 began with a parade of all players, coaches, officials and cheer dancers of different teams carrying their own team monikers. It was followed by the invocation and singing of the national anthem and LPU Hymn which were beautifully rendered by the Harmonic Chorale.
Mr. Karl Sison delivered a speech for the Lyceans on behalf of Honorable Maurito Sison, Board Member of the 6th District of the Province of Cavite, who was the guest speaker for LPU-C Games. He was introduced by the Auditor of LYCESGO, Ms. Julliana Helena Dasig.
Our very own Junior Pirate gold medalist thrower, Nicko Atas and Junior Pirate chess grand master, Tenshie Biete, led the lighting of torch and oath of sportsmanship respectively.Our beloved Vice President for Administration, Dr. Maria Teresa O. Pilapil, gave a very strong and inspiring message for all Lyceans and declared the formal opening of LPU-C Games 2023.
The deans of all colleges, assisted by their muses and escorts, facilitated the ceremonial presentation of team moniker banners which marked the beginning of the competitions starting with the Mr. and Ms. LPU-C Games. The IS Iron Spartans’ escort, Peter Mulligan, bagged the title for Mr. LPU-C Games while the CITHM Captains’ muse, Reina Agatha Aroggante was titled Ms. LPU-C Games.
Selected PATHFit4 students and the LCDC gave special dance numbers which provided more excitement to all spectators. The Drum Battalion also gave a festive mood for all participants all throughout the program.
The fun and excitement brought by LPU-C Games was extended until its last day because of the much-awaited Cheer Dance competition and announcement of the overall champion. Once again, the eight teams showcased their skills and talents in different dance themes and concepts. The CAMS Venomous Vipers emerged as Champion for the cheer dance competition.
The CITHM Captains was declared the overall champion for LPU-C Games 2023 garnering a total of 22 golds, 8 silvers and 10 bronzes. COECSA Raging Dragons was overall 1st runner-up with 16 golds 26 silvers and 6 bronzes, CBA Tigers was 2nd runner-up with 7 golds, 11 silvers and 14 bronzes and CAMS Venomous Vipers was 3rd runner-up with 6 golds, 1 silver and 9 bronzes.
For this year’s intramural, the CSD has introduced the medal tally ranking system to determine the overall champion wherein ranking order is based first on the number of gold medals won, then silver and bronze, which was accepted and approved by all participating teams. The steering committee of LPU-C Games was headed by the Head of CSD, Ms. Mary Rose Mojica, together with other committee chairs and members namely Ananias Goyal, Melanie Gida, Verna Peji, Joebert Esmilla, Myles Clarence Bawalan, Jackielyn Hinacay, Niño Melindo, Renato Tanglao, Ray-ann Penus, Beverlyn Alvarez, JC-Maye Dichoso, and Angelica Grace Aguilar.
The LPU-C Games 2023 was indeed a huge success. After more than 2 years of restrictions, we are now finally in full face to face set-up. The holistic development of our students will never be achieved without engaging them in activities like intramurals that provides them diverse learning experiences which develop their full potentials and character in order for them to readily face the emerging challenges of life.
