30-Minute International Tourism Talks: All at Sea—Do Cruise Lines have a Future in a Post-COVID-19 World?

On May 13, 2020, the LPU-Cavite, College of International and Hospitality Management faculty members attended the 30-Minute International Tourism Talks: Webinar series entitled “All at Sea—Do Cruise Lines have a Future in a Post-COVID-19 World?” The webinar topics were presented by two special speakers, Dr. Perry Hobson and Professor Ross Dowling, and hosted by Mr. Alan Williams.

The webinar focused on the possible future of the cruise line tourism industry after COVID-19. It is very much obvious that the cruise industry has been greatly affected by the pandemic. According to Professor Dowling, the cruise tourism had been in the tourism industry for more than 100 years, and has emphasized that it is quite resilient and that it will be able to rise again a year after this pandemic. It has been noted that the cruise line industry may return to its “normal” operations provided that it is equipped with a few alternatives to cope with the post-pandemic situation.

The webinar has also advised that working in a cruise ship is still a good career. There are various positions on-board that await those who wants to find a job as long as the aspiring candidates have the qualifications needed.
