Civil Engineering Students Wins 2nd Runner 13th Annual Research Awards
Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite (LPU-C) Civil Engineering group won second prize in the 13th Annual Research Awards under the Innovation Category during the virtual live ceremony held last October 28, 2020.
ARAW is a research competition hosted by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology, and endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education which aims to strengthen the competence of engineering professionals and students in research and development for the advancement of science and technology in the field of engineering. With the theme, “Facing the the Challenges of Industry 4.0 through Science and Technology, they started to call for papers last January 2020.
With their research on ““Development of Water Evaporation Suppressant for Reservoir Utilizing Fern as an AntiMicrobial Agent”, Kristian Daile D. Arellano, Jessica Michaella F. Mañago, Ross Aldrich D. Perez, Christianne Faye A. Villanueva and Adviser, Engr. Drexler Sibal, captured the interest of judges as their paper passed through the evaluation stages. They were named as one of the semi-finalists last February 16, 2020, qualifying under the Innovation Category. From 10 semi-finalists, ARAW picked only 3 participating researches for each category. Together with the Technological Institute of the Philippines, De La Salle University – Manila (DLSU-M), LPU-C was announced as one of the finalists last March 1, 2020.
They were supposed to compete last March 11, 2020 in PUP, Sta. Mesa, Manila, but due to the COVID19 pandemic, ARAW was postponed. Instead it was culminated last October 28, 2020 as the participants presented their researchers virtually through video conferencing.
Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, FEU Institute of Technology, and DLSU-M awarded with the best scientific research, best research for commercialization and best innovative research respectively. The outstanding research of the year was awarded to DLSU-M.
