Student-Athletes Grateful to LPU-C’s Support During the Pandemic
Athletic scholarship is one of the most distinguished types of financial aid awarded to deserving student- athletes. Students who would like to apply for this scholarship must meet certain requirements like grades, good moral character, and excellent athletic performance. By competing in collegiate sports, they learn valuable life skills such as cooperation, leadership, and time management. Engaging in sports also help in developing one’s positive attitude towards self- improvement, discipline, goal setting, self-esteem, and camaraderie. The setbacks and shortcomings that student- athletes encounter can also help them learn how to deal with stress and cope with wins and losses.
LPU- Cavite focuses on a holistic educational and character-building experience which helps student- athletes succeed in life. During the COVID 19 pandemic, the LPU management’s top priority is to provide the student- athletes with excellent physical and mental condition. From the food they eat, their workouts, and lifestyles. Apart from involving themselves to physical and mental activities, they are also busy with their social growth and development.
Ms. Mary Rose Mojica, Head of the Athletics Department and also one of the coaches, assists the athletes in developing their full potential. She is responsible for training athletes in sports by analyzing their performances, instructing relevant skills, and providing encouragements. The student- athletes were also guided by the other coaches to be active during the quarantine and must observe solidarity, community and team spirit.
Staying connected with the student- athletes is one of the most important support that a school can offer during this difficult time, while maintaining physical distancing and using technology. After the sports seasons were cancelled due to the pandemic, the student- athletes were provided with free board and lodging ensuring that they are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually nurtured. The student-athletes are grateful and thankful to the University President, Atty. Roberto P. Laurel and the Vice President for Administration and Registrar, Ms. Maria Teresa O. Pilapil for the unwavering support and guidance that they have given them.
LPU- Cavite management wants them to have a positive, far-ranging experience. Student- athletes are nurtured when it comes to their well- being. The school ensures that they are prepared for a lifetime success in all of their pursuits.

“Days before the quarantine was announced, I was reluctant to travel back home and decided not to, since the outbreak of the virus is quite serious, and it got thinking maybe I might get infected whatsoever during my travel. Days later, the government implemented a lockdown and I was forced to stay in the dorm. The first couple of weeks was kinda still normal for me. My daily routine was getting up at 8 am, doing some exercises while waiting for the food to be delivered by LPU-C. Food provided by LPU-C was for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, every day for the first couple of weeks of lockdown. Weeks after that, LPU-C provided money instead of the regular breakfast, lunch, dinner (i think it’s because of the shortage of supplies in the market during that time). I went to a “carenderia” near the dormitory every day until the third week of May since LPU-C started to provide food again. This quarantine made me realized a lot of things and I am truly grateful for all the support given by LPU-C during these trying times.”- Chris Maynard Ampon- Davao Oriental
