The Academic Resource Center (ARC) of LPU-Cavite in coordination with the Community Outreach and Service Learning (COSeL) Office visited the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Facility in Malabon, General Trias City on the morning of March 31, 2022, to initiate a reading outreach program among the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

Ms. Sherry A. Rodenas of ARC invited LPU student of Bachelor and Library and Information Science, Mr. Roldan Dayonos, who is also a Presbyterian pastor, to give the inmates an inspirational talk based on the Gospel. The good pastor stirred the minds and hearts of the inmates to consider their present situations and to prepare themselves for a better future in response to the Lord’s loving invitation. He led the inmates in a moving prayer done with deep solemnity and silence.

The ARC then distributed reading materials intended to aid them in forming reflections and resolutions while waiting for their freedom. The ARC representatives, Ms. Rodenas and Ms. Neriza Baloloy promised a return visit to further encourage the inmates through reading, motivational talks, and activities. ARC and COSeL also provided simple snacks for the inmates. Ms. Allena Costa of COseL attended to the documentation of the event.

As always, LPU’s partner NGO Lingkod Lazaro, headed by Sis. Merlin Camposano and her team were on hand to coordinate with the police authorities, facilitate the program, and support LPU’s engagement with this special group of people who need compassionate attention and care, especially during this Lenten season.
