LPU Provides ALS Modules

Since the resumption of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program in 2021, the learners had to shift from face-to-face encounters with volunteer teachers to remote modular lessons. In support of the students, some of whom are breadwinners for their families, and some are full-time moms, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite provides copies of modules that serve as the instructional guides for the various lessons in the ALS curriculum.

Miss Allena Jesa Costa, COSeL office secretary, determines the modules to be printed, coordinates with the Property Office headed by Ms Harlyn Vidallon, and arranges the materials for pick-up by the learners. To avail of the free copies of the modules, the learners must follow the security and health protocols of the university and appointment system of scheduling their visits to the Community Outreach and Service Learning (COSeL) office.

Ms. Costa also serves as the instructor for the first part of the curriculum and follows up on the learners’ progress through online discussion of designated topics. It was Ms. Cosca who realized that most learners do not have the appropriate gadgets to participate in the lessons or to read the online modules and so the need for actual printed materials for better appreciation and comprehension of the lessons. LPU ALS learners are excited and highly motivated to finish their program this year.
