LPU Hosts Mothers’ Day at Gentri BJMP

The Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite (LPU Cavite) hosted this year’s Mothers’ Day celebration for mothers who are Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the General Trias City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Barangay Navarro on May 11, 2023. The Community Outreach and Service Learning (COSeL) office, together with our partner NGO Lingkod Lazaro, coordinated the event with the wardens of the facility who readily agreed to hold such festivity.

Under the leadership of Ma’am Raizza Corpuz, a contingent of Legal Studies (LS) faculty and students took charge of the program. While the CITHM class of CAKO 401 (through Ms Pauline Alec Romero) shouldered the cost of the food and the souvenirs for the mothers, the Faculty and students at the College of Liberal Arts and Education (CLAE) prepared the program complete with the presentations, the games and the audience participation. The university provided the group with a driver, transport facility, and an accompanying utility staff, thanks to the cooperation of Engr. Rhiya Espanto.

Through its COSeL office, LPU Cavite has an ongoing collaboration with Lingkod Lazaro as both entities strive to work for the welfare of the PDLs. Fr. Ramil Marcos, COSeL head, and Sis. Merlinda Camposano, Lingkod Lazaro president, were both on hand to oversee the event. Many thanks to all those who made this occasion a successful and meaningful one for the mothers in a different situation.
