Empowering Communities: Nutrition and Dietetics Department Hosts Nutrition Education in Barangay Manggahan, General Trias Cavite

On December 5, 2023, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department of CITHM took a significant step toward community empowerment by organizing an impactful event in Barangay Manggahan. Focused on addressing the critical issue of child malnutrition, the event catered to 20 mothers with malnourished children aged between 6 to 11 years old, aiming to provide education, nutritional support, and essential gifts.

Recognizing the pressing need to combat malnutrition among children, the department spearheaded a comprehensive educational initiative. The event centered on imparting vital nutrition education to mothers, equipping them with knowledge and tools to make informed decisions regarding their children’s dietary habits and overall health.

Under the guidance of experienced nutritionists and dietitians, the mothers participated in interactive sessions that covered various aspects of proper nutrition, balanced diets, healthy meal planning, and the importance of micronutrients. These sessions were designed not only to educate but also to empower mothers to actively contribute to improving their children’s nutritional status.

In addition to the educational sessions, the event featured a practical component aimed at immediate intervention. Nutritious food was prepared and provided to the children, ensuring they received a wholesome meal rich in essential nutrients. The focus was not only on immediate sustenance but also on instilling healthy eating habits that could be sustained over time.

Furthermore, the event incorporated a heartwarming gesture of care and solidarity. Gifts were distributed among the children, bringing smiles to their faces and spreading a sense of joy within the community. This act of kindness went beyond addressing immediate nutritional needs, emphasizing the importance of holistic support for the children’s well-being.

The atmosphere during the event was one of collaboration, compassion, and empowerment. The dedication of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, combined with the receptiveness and engagement of the mothers, fostered an environment conducive to learning and positive change.

The impact of this event extended beyond the day’s activities. It planted seeds of knowledge and empowerment within the community, empowering mothers to become advocates for their children’s health and nutritional well-being. By equipping them with essential information and support, the department aimed to create a sustainable impact that would positively influence the children’s growth and development.

As the event concluded, the sense of gratitude and hope resonated among the participants. The Nutrition and Dietetics Department reaffirmed its commitment to serving communities and

addressing critical health issues, one educational initiative at a time.
