Empowering Bukid Kabataan: Student Organizations Bridge the Digital Divide through Computer Literacy Outreach

On March 15, 2024, members of the student organizations from the BS Computer Engineering and BS in Electronics and Communication Engineering programs united to initiate a transformative outreach event. The objective is to equip the children of Bukid Kabataan with essential computer literacy skills, empowering them to navigate the digital landscape with confidence and competence.

The program commenced with an introduction to basic computer components and functionalities. Volunteers employed creative teaching methods, incorporating hands-on activities to foster engagement and comprehension.

Small groups of children were guided through various computer applications, from word processing to multimedia editing. Patient volunteers provided one-on-one assistance, ensuring every child received personalized support tailored to their learning pace.

The outreach event transcended mere technical instruction, fostering holistic development among the participants. Breakout sessions delved into topics such as online safety, digital citizenship, and the vast opportunities technology presents for education and career advancement. Moreover, the student organizers imparted lessons on creativity and innovation, inspiring the children to harness technology as a tool for self-expression and empowerment.

Beyond imparting technical knowledge, they have instilled a sense of confidence, curiosity, and empowerment within the community. As Bukid Kabataan embarks on a journey of digital exploration and growth, these student organizers stand as beacons of change, illustrating the profound impact that education and community outreach can have in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future.
